Time to Play?

Piano Lessons

If your child doesn’t enjoy the learning process, nothing sticks.  My goal for each student is to build the skills necessary to play any music they choose.  I also enjoy designing lessons that are custom-made to my student’s interests.  You can’t be bored if you are learning music you like!  I do not assign repetitive exercises and drills at the earliest levels because they have the effect of boring the student to the point of not wanting to play at all.  Your child wants to “play” music, not “work” at it.  Just as great athletes spend hours exercising each day to achieve their performance goals, they started out just “playing” the game they would later take so seriously.  There is a place for such traditional exercises, I did them myself, but it is not necessary for a player to begin their music education with them.

Adults is it time to play?

You may have had lessons as a child, but quit because you found learning to play uninteresting and frustrating.  Maybe your teacher assigned all those scales and exercises because that’s how they started to play.  Well, that’s okay for the student so motivated from childhood to become a professional musician, but what about those who just want to play their favorite popular songs?  There’s more than one way to teach music, and I enjoy approaching music education in different ways to suit the interests of each individual.

You may be thinking that it is too late for you to learn to play music at your age.  You are wrong!  (Take that!)  Doctors begin their medical training as adults, and while they are still students they begin to treat patients.  Think about it, if you can learn to heal the sick and save lives beginning as an adult… what can be so hard about playing a few tunes for your own enjoyment?  The hardest part is getting started.
